ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police will request the government to reserve 10 percent job quota for women in the capital's police force, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Zafar Iqbal said Tuesday.
A summary containing the proposal will be sent to the Interior Ministry soon, the SSP told a news conference. He said the proposed recruitment of more women would raise the total strength of Islamabad police to over 400 and help the force to deal more effectively with complaints from women.
Zafar Iqbal said another proposal was also under consideration to bring three or four women police inspectors from Punjab to serve on deputation with the Islamabad police. To a question about the investigation into the murder of senior journalist Malik Ismail killed in the capital last year, the SSP said he had recently met the brother of the deceased and the probe would be accelerated.
"The file has been re-opened on priority and a competent team would be deputed to investigate the case with sincere efforts to solve the mystery," the officer said. Zafar Iqbal admitted an increase in car theft cases in Islamabad and appealed to motorists to be careful while parking their vehicles.
The SSP said contractors of the parking lots outside the hospitals and other public places should erect fences to separate the entry and exit points. Regarding the murder of Additional Registrar of Supreme Court, Syed Hamad Amjad Raza, earlier this month, he said that an investigation was underway. The media would soon get answers to all questions in the murder case of the top court official, the SSP said. |
